Bishop Vann with school children

For over one hundred years, the Catholic Schools in North Texas have educated our youth in character, service and academics. Those who have benefited from a Catholic education have become role models for the next generation. Our schools form the future of our Church. Sustaining the long tradition of excellence in our 20 elementary and high schools remains a priority in the Diocese of Fort Worth.

In 2006, Bishop Kevin Vann initiated a long-range plan to ensure the financial stability and growth of Catholic Schools across our Diocese. The goal of our schools will always be to provide character formation and a high-quality education to students. However, to maintain these standards and remain affordable, a forward-looking business plan was necessary.

For many years, schools operated with tuition below the actual expense of education. Following sound business practice, the schools are now moving towards a cost-based tuition model supported with need-based aid.

The Bishop’s Scholars Fund was established in 2006. Its purpose is to increase available tuition assistance for all families who demonstrate a financial need. The goal is to offer affordable Catholic school education to all who desire it.

The Success of the Bishop’s Scholars Fund

Bishop Vann inaugurated the Bishop’s Scholars Fund to help keep our Catholic schools affordable, available and accessible by providing more tuition assistance for students as our schools move toward a cost-based tuition model. Since the fund’s inception in 2006...
  • The number of students seeking aid has increased from 500 to 1,483
  • The number of grants awarded has increased from less than 300 to 757
  • The average amount awarded increased from $420 to $803
  • The total amount awarded increased from $109,000 to $607,550
Thanks to Bishop’s Scholars Fund Donors, hundreds of families have benefitted from tuition assistance in the past two years. However, with almost $3.2 million in unfunded need, expanded numbers of donors and gifts are necessary.
