Sr. Margaret Rose Fee, SSMN, lifelong educator, dies at 90

Sr. Margaret Rose Fee, SSMN, died at Our Lady of Victory Convent on Saturday, Dec. 10. She was 90 years old.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Catherine McEnrue Fee. Rose Fee was born in Waco on April 13, 1921. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy of Waco in 1939.

She entered the congregation of the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in 1939. Sr. Margaret Rose made her final profession on August 15, 1948. She celebrated her jubilee of 70 years of religious life in 2009 at the OLV Center in Fort Worth.

Sr. Margaret Rose earned a Bachelor of Arts from Our Lady of Victory College in 1946 and a masters degree in education from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in 1960. She was an educator serving primarily in schools in Texas and California, and for a time, in Canada.

Sr. Margaret Rose taught at St. Mary's School in Fort Worth from 1942-43, St. Edward in Dallas from 1943-48, and at Resurrection School in Houston from 1948-49, before serving as principal at St. Alice School in Fort Worth from 1949-53, and serving at St. Xavier in Denison from 1953-55 followed by one year each at St. James School in Dallas and Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Dallas.

Sr. Margaret Rose was principal of Our Lady of Victory in Fort Worth from 1963-68; again from 1970-75: and from 1986-87, and at Sacred Heart School in Hollister, California, from 1957-58 and from 1977-85. She spent three years from 1975-77 in Canada teaching fifth through eighth grades. From 1985-86 she served at Notre Dame School in Wichita Falls, then went to St. Maria Goretti Parish in Arlington from1987-89. In 1991 sister took care of her ill brother Father Paul Fee, and worked one year in Schulenburg, Texas.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Alice Gray of Canyon Lake, California; Joe Fee of Oklahoma City; Cathy Burton of Wills Point, Texas; Theresa Gonsalves of La Palma, California; Paul Fee of Burbank, California; Chris Bonura and Greg Bonura of Beaumont; and Mary Miller and Mike Bonura of Vidor, Texas.

 A vigil service was held at our Lady of Victory Center on Monday, Dec. 12, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, Dec. 13, with Father John Hennessey officiating. The Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
