The John Paul II Institute School of Lay Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth forms lay Catholics to serve as ecclesial ministers by teaching Scripture and Christian doctrine, by training in various ministerial areas, and by providing experiences of human development and spiritual enrichment. The programs are conducted in both English y Español.
The program trains lay Catholics for ministry in parishes and diocesan service organizations. The regular program takes two years and leads to a formal "commissioning" by the bishop where a certificate of completion is conferred. The curriculum includes courses in Scripture, Christian Doctrine, and ministry. Three obligatory assemblies of students are planned each year.
All Catholics of at least eighteen years old and currently serving or intending to serve as lay ministers in a parish or diocesan agency are eligible to participate in JPII. The pastor’s or agency head’s approval is necessary for admission.
