Offical Catholic School Calendar (2014-2015)

Diocesan Teacher Inservice

Teachers from the diocesan Catholic schools gather each semester for professional development at a Diocesan Inservice Day. The fall inservice includes a special liturgy at which the Bishop presides. Service pins are also awarded to personnel achieving hallmark years of service in the diocese. The spring inservice includes the awarding of certificates to those completing the requirements for Catechist Certification.

Celebration of Catholic Schools

The Celebration of Catholic Schools is an annual banquet honoring outstanding individuals whose service, dedication and generosity have impacted the lives of students in the diocesan schools. Honorees are chosen from each school community. In addition, the Diocesan Leadership Award is given to an individual or organization whose vision, leadership and example has served to further the mission of Catholic schools.

Teacher Job Fair

Each year the Office of Catholic Schools hosts a Teacher Job Fair where prospective teachers can meet with school principals and representatives to discuss job opportunities in the local schools.

Fifth Grade Vocation Day

Fifth grade students from across the diocese attend a special Vocations Day where they attend Mass and spend time listening to the vocation stories of priests and religious from the diocese. The diocesan Vocations Office sponsors the day in partnership with the Office of Catholic Schools.

Eighth Grade Mass

A special liturgy marks the milestone achieved by the 8th grade class as they transition beyond the walls of elementary school. The Mass is celebrated by Bishop Vann and the school pastors while students serve as cantors, readers, musicians, greeters and choir. The Bishop extends to them a special blessing and challenges them to persevere in being Christ-like as they continue to live out their faith. It is a memorable event for the students as well as their teachers and families.
