Educate the Children Honduras
Planting Seeds of Hope, Harvesting Dreams
For more than 20 years, Educate the Children Honduras has been quietly transforming lives in the remote mountains of Honduras. What started as a humble effort to bring education to children in isolated communities has grown into a powerful legacy of opportunity and change.
One shining example is Leydi Espinal, a proud graduate of Barro Seales School. This month, she reaches a milestone that once seemed out of reach—she will graduate as a lawyer. Her journey from a rural student to a legal professional is a testament to the enduring power of dreams nurtured by ETC Honduras, but Leydi’s story is not just her own. It belongs to every teacher, donor, and supporter who believed in the mission. It is a celebration of what happens when education meets hope.
Congratulations, Leydi! Your success is a beacon for the next generation.
ETC Honduras consist of all volunteers. If you wish to join us we are happy to have you and your talents. We meet on a quarterly basis and have conference calls as needed. If you are interested please email us at .

Hurricane Mitch hits Central America in 1998. It was one of the deadliest storms to hit the Western Hemisphere in more than 200 years.
After its destruction, a group of parishioners from the Diocese of Fort Worth traveled to Honduras and upon returning, started working on ways to assist their brothers and sisters in need.
During this visit it was discovered that the government only provided education up to the 6th grade, and any further education was entirely the parents’ responsibility. This is a troubling outlook when considering the already low education level among parents themselves, with one in ten being illiterate, and sadly, this ratio only increases in rural areas. Simply put, most parents do not have the resources.
This is why Educate the Children Honduras (ETC Honduras) was created. After raising enough funds, schools were constructed and completed in 2005 in the remote area of Olancho (Valle Alegre and Barroseales). Now a Catholic education is possible from 7th to 11th grade in these remote areas, bringing youth out of the fields and into classrooms where they can better develop their God-given talents and gifts. Fifteen years later, a third school was opened in 2020 in the village of Bella Vista using the local Catholic chapel.
As the mission continues, youth are now applying to universities and receiving scholarships, with former graduates giving back. Yet, there is still much work to be done! Please consider joining us by becoming a sponsor. With your help, we can continue to make an impact on the lives of young people.
Your donation/sponsorship of only $40.00/month ($480/year) or any one-time donation, will directly impact the lives of children in remote regions. Equally important, your help provides them inspiration to dream about a better future and a pathway forward that ends the generational cycle of barriers that prevent access to education.
Donations can be made monthly or annually by check, credit card or automatic withdrawal.
The following are the areas where you can apply your donation(s):
- General — Funds the teacher’s salaries, provides school maintenance, and classroom supplies (e.g. chairs, white boards, projectors).
- Sponsorship — Support a child’s education (uniforms, books, supplies, and backpacks).
